Physician Assistant (PA) - Cardiothoracic Surgery (Locum Call Only)
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Board Certified Physician Assistant (PA) specializing in Cardiothoracic Surgery for an urgent and critical locum call-only assignment. This is an immediate need, with coverage beginning July 7, 2025, and concluding on July 13, 2025.
The successful candidate will provide essential on-call support for our Cardiothoracic Surgery service, addressing all emergent and urgent needs that arise during the coverage period. This role requires a PA with significant experience in a CT surgery setting, capable of autonomous decision-making and efficient management of critical situations.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive on-call coverage for emergent and urgent cardiothoracic surgical needs.
- Respond promptly to pages and consults from the Emergency Department, critical care units (ICU, CCU), and other hospital services.
- Assist in the evaluation and management of pre- and post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients.
- Perform initial assessments and stabilize patients presenting with acute cardiac or thoracic conditions.
- Communicate effectively with attending surgeons, residents, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Accurately and thoroughly document all patient encounters, assessments, and interventions within the Cerner EMR System.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and patient safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current NCCPA Board Certification is required.
- Valid and unrestricted Physician Assistant license in [State where the job is located] (or ability to obtain an emergency/temporary license quickly for this urgent need).
- Current BLS, ACLS certifications required.
- Minimum of recent and dedicated experience as a PA in Cardiothoracic Surgery is essential, with demonstrated ability to manage emergent situations.
- Proficiency with the Cerner EMR System is mandatory.
- Exceptional diagnostic and clinical skills, with a strong understanding of cardiothoracic pathophysiology.
