Description

Acute Care Surgeon (Trauma, EGS, Surgical Critical Care)

We are actively seeking multiple experienced and dedicated Acute Care Surgeons to join our comprehensive surgical team at a leading teaching hospital. This is an ongoing, full-time opportunity to provide critical coverage across our dedicated trauma, emergency general surgery (EGS), and surgical critical care (SCC) services. We are partnering with Weatherby Healthcare for this targeted search.

The ideal candidate will be highly proficient and comfortable with the full gamut of patient care spanning these three services, operating within a robust academic environment. All three services are robustly supported by residents and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), fostering a collaborative and educational atmosphere.

Service Rotations & Responsibilities:

Physicians will rotate on one of three distinct services:

  1. Trauma & Emergency General Surgery (EGS) Service:

  • Coverage: 5 days per week, Monday through Friday.
  • Shift Times: Day shifts from 0700 - 1700.
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 35-40 patients per day.
  • Responsibilities: Management of acute trauma cases and a wide range of emergency general surgery conditions.
  1. Surgical Critical Care (SCC) Service:

  • Coverage: 7 days per week, Monday through Sunday.
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 12-17 ICU patients.
  • Responsibilities: Comprehensive management of surgical critical care patients in the ICU, including providing trauma backup coverage. Includes weekend coverage for the trauma floor and ICU.

Key Qualifications & Skills:

  • Board Certification:
  • Required: Board Certification in General Surgery.
  • Required: Board Certification in Surgical Critical Care.
  • Specialty Certification: ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) certification is required.
  • Experience: Proven experience in acute care surgery, encompassing trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care.
  • Procedural Skills: Comfort with the full scope of procedures relevant to acute care surgery.
  • Robotics: Experience in robotic surgery is a plus, but not required.
  • Rib Plating: Experience in rib plating is a plus, but not required.

Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a teaching environment, collaborating with residents, APPs, and multidisciplinary teams.
