Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Neurohospitalist to join our team on a call-only basis. This is a critical remote position supporting our Comprehensive Stroke Center, which also manages neurological emergencies and general neurology consults throughout our hospital network.
A significant component of this role involves providing essential tele-neurology support to Critical Access Hospitals in Montana and Northern Wyoming. In this capacity, you will play a crucial role in rapidly evaluating patients remotely to determine if a higher level of care is needed or if immediate thrombolytic therapy is indicated for acute ischemic stroke.
Our team is well-supported, with one Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) per day shift and three dedicated Stroke RNs on day shifts, Monday through Friday, ensuring efficient patient flow and coordinated care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert neurological consultation and management for all neurological emergencies and general neurology consults from our main hospital and affiliated Critical Access Hospitals.
- Serve as the primary tele-neurology consultant for critical access hospitals in Montana and Northern Wyoming, performing remote neurological assessments for patients with acute neurological deficits.
- Rapidly evaluate stroke patients to determine eligibility for thrombolytic therapies (e.g., TNK) and facilitate transfer to a higher level of care when necessary.
- Collaborate closely with emergency physicians, hospitalists, primary care providers, APCs, and Stroke RNs to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Provide clear and concise recommendations for diagnosis, treatment plans, and disposition.
- Accurately and thoroughly document all patient encounters, assessments, and recommendations within the Cerner EMR System.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to stroke care and neurological emergency management.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in neurology and stroke care.
Schedule:
This is a call-only position with shifts structured as:
- 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
- 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
Qualifications:
- Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
- Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited Neurology Residency Program.
- Board Certification in Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (or equivalent recognized board).
- Fellowship training in Vascular Neurology or Neurocritical Care is highly preferred.
- Valid and unrestricted medical license in [State where your main hospital is located] and eligibility for licensure in Montana and Wyoming is required.
- Strong experience in managing acute stroke, neurological emergencies, and general neurology inpatient consults.
- Demonstrated proficiency in tele-neurology platforms and remote patient evaluation.
- Expertise in acute ischemic stroke management, including familiarity with thrombolytic agents like TNK.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear guidance to remote providers.
- Proficiency with the Cerner EMR System is essential.
- Ability to make rapid, critical clinical decisions under pressure.
