Thoracic Surgeon - Locum Tenens Call Coverage

Job Description:

We are seeking a Board Certified Thoracic Surgeon for crucial locum call coverage. This ongoing opportunity is essential for providing continuous coverage when our primary Cardiothoracic Surgeon is on vacation or otherwise unavailable.

We have an immediate and critical need for coverage starting June 27, 2025, at 8:00 AM for orientation, extending through July 7, 2025, at 8:00 AM. This position will primarily involve taking CT Surgery Call, handling all emergent and urgent cardiothoracic surgical needs as they arise.

The ideal candidate will be adept at managing a broad spectrum of cardiothoracic emergencies and demonstrate excellent clinical judgment and communication skills. You'll be working in a supportive environment, ensuring high-quality patient care during critical periods.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive on-call coverage for all cardiothoracic surgical emergencies and urgent cases.
  • Respond promptly to pages and consults from the Emergency Department, critical care units, and other hospital services.
  • Perform emergent and urgent surgical procedures as required, including but not limited to, trauma to the chest, pulmonary embolism, aortic dissections, and other acute cardiac or thoracic conditions.
  • Collaborate effectively with critical care teams, intensivists, emergency physicians, and other specialists.
  • Document all patient encounters accurately and thoroughly using the MediTech EMR System.
  • Maintain open and clear communication with referring physicians and patient families.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and patient safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited Thoracic Surgery or Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program.
  • Minimum Board Certification (BC) in Thoracic Surgery or Cardiothoracic Surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (or equivalent recognized board).
  • Valid and unrestricted medical license in [State where the job is located] (or ability to obtain one prior to start date).
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing acute cardiothoracic surgical emergencies.
  • Excellent diagnostic and surgical skills, coupled with strong critical thinking.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to integrate seamlessly into an existing surgical team for temporary coverage periods.
