Facility is seeking a skilled and collaborative Locum Tenens Radiation Oncologist to join our team in scenic Duluth, MN. Situated right on the shores of Lake Superior, Duluth offers a vibrant outdoor lifestyle, stunning natural beauty, and an exceptional quality of life.
You’ll step into a well-supported, highly organized, and modern oncology department backed by an experienced multidisciplinary team.
Clinical Volume & Daily Workflow
- Patient Treatment Volume: 35–50 total patients under treatment daily across the team (~10–16 per physician).
- Consults: 2–3 consults per day (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday). Scheduled for 60 minutes.
- Follow-Ups: ~10–12 per week. Scheduled for 30 minutes.
- CT Simulations: 3–5 total per day across the department.
- Weekly Schedule Structure:
- Mon / Wed / Thu / Fri: Dedicated to consults, follow-ups, and CT simulations.
- Tuesday: Dedicated On-Treatment Visit (OTV) Day for the locum (no routine consults scheduled).
Technology & Equipment
Work in a state-of-the-art facility featuring modern technology:
- Linear Accelerators: 2x Varian TrueBeam
- Imaging & Motion: Siemens Go Open Pro large bore CT scanner with respiratory gating, Identify Motion Management System
- Treatment Planning & Software: Varian Eclipse, MIM
- EMR Systems: EPIC (Clinic) & Varian ARIA (Radiation Oncology EMR)
- Techniques & Modalities: 3D, IMRT, VMAT, SRS/SRT, SBRT
Team & Support Structure
You will be working alongside a full, dedicated support system:
- Physicians: 4.0 FTE Radiation Oncologists in Duluth (plus 1.0 FTE in Ashland)
- Physics & Dosimetry: 1.8 FTE Medical Physicists and 3 Medical Dosimetrists
- Clinical Team: 7 Radiation Therapists, 2.0 daily FTE RNs, 1 Clinical Assistant, 1 Scheduler, and a dedicated Department Manager
- Collaborative Environment: Active participation in chart rounds, system peer rounds, and tumor conferences.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct inpatient and outpatient consults and follow-up visits.
- Manage CT simulation ordering, treatment planning, critical structure contouring, and RT prescriptions.
- Handle plan approvals, imaging orders, and image review/approval.
- Work collaboratively with radiation therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, and nursing staff to ensure high-quality patient care.
??Requirements & Qualifications
- Board Certification / Eligibility in Radiation Oncology.
- Required Technical Skills: Proficiency in EPIC, Varian ARIA, and Varian Eclipse.
- Hands-on clinical experience with Varian TrueBeam.
- Active Minnesota medical license (or eligibility to obtain).
- On-site presence required during core operational hours (7:30 AM – 4:30 PM).
