Cancer Center is actively seeking Hematology/Oncology Physician to join their team!


Practice Setting:

  • Outpatient Practice 3-5 days a week for 8 hours per day
  • Inpatient On-Call Coverage 7 days per month for 24 hours per day (will be on call while doing outpatient clinic work and have to go to hospital)



Reason for Coverage: We had recent resignation of our full time Hem-Onc.  The practice has a part-time 0.5 FTE Hem-Onc who we would like to support with a Locum Tenens.  There is also a breast surgeon and surgical oncologists in the practice.  The outpatient practice location shares space with a Radiation Treatment Center, staffed by two physicians.  

Dates of Coverage: 8/11/25 (or as soon as credentialed) - ongoing until Perm is hired

Schedule (2 options): M-W-F 8 hr/day coverage + 7 24 hours on-call shifts per month OR M-F 8 hr/day + 7 24 hours on-call shift per month.  

Call Schedule: 1 week of call per month (7 consecutive 24 hour shifts)

Call Ratio: 1:4

Patient Population for Required Coverage:  Adult, Geriatric

What Percentage of the Practice is Hematology, Oncology, Internal Medicine?:  25% Hematology, 75% Oncology, 0% Internal Medicine 

Number of Physicians in Practice:  0.5 FTE Hem Onc, 1.0 FTE Breast Surgeon, 1.0 FTE Surgical Oncologists, 2.0 FTE Radiation Oncologists 

Will There be Radiation Oncologists Present During Locum Tenens Coverage? Yes

They do have a patient navigator and a social worker. They also have a Medical Assistant and Practice Manager.

They do not do chemo in the center, it's 2 miles away in the outpatient infusion center

Patient volume is ~70-80 patient load - but a lot of them are chronic management patients.Do not have a lot of emergent cases.

A lot of Spanish-speaking patients - the provider does not need to be bilingual; they have interpreters. 

Average Number of Patients Per Day - OUTPATIENT (Clinic/Office) : <=10

Average Number of Patients Per Day - HOSPITAL (Call/Rounding) : <=2

Documentation System/EMR:  EPIC 

Administration of Chemotherapy:  Nurse oncologist

Estimated Credentialing Timeframe:  3 months, however emergency privileges granted by President are possible after initial application is complete

  • Chemotherapy - Intracavitary - Intrapleural / Peritoneal, etc.
  • Chemotherapy - Intrathecal
  • FNA/Biopsy
  • Mgmt. of VAD/CV Catheters

Required Duties: 

  • Participation on a Tumor Board
  • Blood Bank
  • Orders Tests
  • Orders Images
  • Prescribes

Submission Requirements

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible - REQUIRED
  • Active MD State License - REQUIRED at time of submission, no exceptions
  • Active MD DEA and CDS - REQUIRED at time of submission, no exceptions
  • BLS or ACLS - REQUIRED to obtain privs
  • Note if provider wants 3 days/week or 5 days/week in submission
  • Note in submission where provider will be traveling from - local providers will be prioritized
