Specialty: General Surgery – Trauma / Surgical Critical Care (SCC)
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP
End Date: Ongoing
Coverage Blocks: Beginning February 1st, 7 consecutive days up to 21 days per month of required coverage
Coverage Structure:
Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Serves as immediate back-up call for the following night shift)
Night Shift: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM next day (Serves as back-up call for the preceding day shift)
Coverage Type: Inpatient ICU & Trauma Service + Scheduled Clinic
??Clinical Operations & Team Structure
Day Team: 2 Surgeons + 2 APPs
Team 1 (Surgeon + APP): Covers ICU and Trauma Service
Team 2 (Surgeon + APP): Covers hospital floors and Emergency General Surgery (EGS)
Night Team: 1 Surgeon + 1 APP (Covers the entire surgical service)
ICU Units Covered: Medical-Surgical ICU (MSICU), Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU), and Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU)
Outpatient Clinic: Held Tuesdays and Thursdays in the office area attached to the hospital. Primary coverage by APPs; attending surgeon sees specific complex "MD only" cases (e.g., ongoing wound care, future interval appendectomies, cholecystostomy tubes awaiting future cholecystectomy).
Mandatory Requirements & Credentials
Board Certification: Must be Double Board Certified in General Surgery AND Surgical Critical Care / Trauma (Fellowship in Trauma / Surgical Critical Care required)
Life Support Certification: Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
Licensure & Registrations: Active Indiana (IN) License, Indiana Controlled Substances Registration (CSR), and active Indiana DEA
Background Clearance: Clean National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) and malpractice history mandatory
EMR System: Cerner
Credentialing Timeline: Emergency temporary privileges possible for providers with clean background files
